China, Again, Imposed Lockdown in Lanzhou After New COVID-19 Cases
China placed Lanzhou under restrictions on Tuesday as the country reported a Coronavirus spike, with residents told not to leave home except for emergencies.
With a four million population, Lanzhou reported six coronavirus cases and a total of 39 over the last week. The country enforces a strict ‘zero COVID’ policy carrying out widespread lockdown and testing to detect the new COVID cases and eliminate even a small-scale outbreak.
By Monday evening, nearly 12 million people were tested, including 2.8 million in Lanzhou, and the testing continued on Tuesday to detect the new coronavirus cases.
Officials in Lanzhou said – ‘entry and exit of the residents’ would be strictly controlled and limited to essentials or medical treatment only.
‘The province will continue to use big data and door-to-door testing to strengthen the management and control of COVID-19 cases’ Zhang Hao, a spokesman from the provincial health commission, told in a press conference. ‘Local communities will be utilized to strictly control the flow of people, the spokesperson added.
China is still reporting Coronavirus cases, even after almost two years. Nationwide, the country announced 29 new cases on Tuesday. Most of those were concentrated in the northwest, including fifteen in the Alexa League and three in Beijing.
This week China also expanded its vaccination program by extending the eligibility to above 3 yrs old children. The goal is to thrive the vaccination drive rate above the current 76%.
The approved vaccines produced by Sinovac and Sinopharm as the energy use for children in the age group of 3-17 years in June, but the mass inoculation for children was limited to those aged 10-17.
An outbreak in Fujian, a Chinese University, ignited public discussion of protecting younger children, as many of those infected were Kindergarten and primary school students.
