In recent times, energy drinks have become increasingly popular, and as a result, many new energy drinks have hit the market, like Sting or Prime Energy. However, one such drink that is getting extremely popular, especially within the gaming industry, is Gfuel. It is a powder-based drink introduced in 2012, and after a decade, Gfuel has grown exponentially and become the official drink for ESports. However, one question still lingers: Is Gfuel healthy and really different from other drinks in the market? In this blog, we will look at the ingredients, advantages, and disadvantages of Gfuel and learn whether it is healthy or not.
What Is GFuel
To answer the question- is Gfuel healthy, we first have to understand exactly what it is and what the energy drink’s ingredients are. Let’s start by explaining what Gfuel is. It is a powder-based energy drink that is primarily marketed to gamers and athletes. Gfuel comes in many different flavours, supposedly enhancing focus, energy, and concentration while gaming, working out, or studying. Although this cannot answer your question, if Gfuel is healthy, it gives us insight into the company’s motive.
Gfuel Ingredients
If you are wondering, is Gfuel healthy, you have to know its ingredients and their quantity in the overall drink. So, Gfuel contains many ingredients; some are natural, while most are synthetic or chemically made.
#1 Flavours
Gfuel has more than 20 flavours and launches new ones pretty much every year. However, not all its flavours are made of natural ingredients, and it uses artificial flavour for its drink powder. It cannot be said that artificial flavours are bad for you. However, it is a rule of thumb that you don’t consume artificial flavours unnecessarily. Moreover, artificial flavours are almost unheard of these days because of natural ingredients like beta-carotene and beet. So, why does Gfuel use artificial flavours, and is Gfuel healthy for you? Well, artificial flavours might be used to increase the shelf life of the drink, which can make a significant impact.
#2 Vitamins
The next think to discuss to answer the question, is Gfuel healthy is the vitamins it contains. Gfuel is an energy drink, so it’s no surprise that it contains many vitamins. The main vitamins included in Gfuel are as follows:
- Vitamin C (Absorbic Acid)- 250 mg (278% RDA)
- Vitamin E (D-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate)- 10 mg (67% RDA)
- Vitamin B3 (Niacin)- 15 mg (94% RDA)
- Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine HCI)- 10 mg (588% RDA)
- Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin)- 425 mcg (17708% RDA)
The vitamins available here are fine. However, one concern is the sheer amount of these Vitamins. 17708% of B12’s daily recommended amount is not a joke and can cause serious problems. Moreover, excess B6 can cause a lack of muscle control and voluntary function. Although nothing is wrong with Vitamin, drinking more than 1 serving daily can cause serious problems.
#3 Energy Complex
The next thing to discuss to answer your question—is Gfuel healthy—will be the energy complex present in the energy drink. So, the energy complex present in Gfuel includes taurine, L-citruline malate, Caffeine, Glucoronolactone, N-acetyl-L-carnitine HCI, and Velvet Bean (Mucuna pruriens) seed extract.
These complexes are some of the most common energy complexes present in energy drinks throughout the spectrum, with caffeine being the main energy source. Notably, caffeine only works when a certain amount is consumed, which depends from person to person. In most cases, 400 mg is the daily limit for adults and less than 100mg for people under 18. As most gamers are generally under 18, drinking more than a single Gfuel daily can cause some problems. More than recommended caffeine can make you jittery and anxious.
#4 Focus Complex
Now, let’s discuss the focus complexes present in the drink to determine whether Gfuel is Healthy. The focus complexes present in Gfuel include L-tyrosine, N-acetyl-tyrosine, Adenosine-5-Triphosphate Disodium Salt (ATP), Toothed Clubmoss Aerial Parts Extracts, and Bacoba Lead Extract. However, there is no indication of the number of individual focus complexes. In total, all of these account for around 1 gram. This does not differ from other energy drinks like Redbull or Zoa Drink.
#5 Antioxidants
Regarding antioxidants, Gfuel doesn’t tell you anything about the amount of individual antioxidants in the drinks, so the answer to the question- is Gfuel healthy, becomes a little tough. The drink contains a 163.5 mg mix of Pineapple Fruit Powder, Cabbage Palm Berry Powder, Pomegranate Fruit Extract, Apple Fruit Powder, Orange Fruit Powder, Blueberry Fruit Powder, Grape Seed Powder, Plum Fruit Powder, Raspberry Fruit Powder, Strawberry Fruit Powder, Watermelon Fruit Powder, Lemon Fruit Powder, Lime Fruit Powder, Melon Fruit Powder, Sour Cherry Fruit Powder, Papaya Fruit Powder, Peach Fruit Powder, Pyrus communis Fruit Powder. That’s a lot of antioxidants; truth be told, this is not a bad thing.
Why You Should Think Twice Before Buying Gfuel
After this extensive review, we can say that the answer to the question- is Gfuel Healthy- is not straight. It depends on the person buying the drink. If you ask us, we can wholeheartedly say that Gfuel is safe and healthy to consume and contains nothing harmful. However, you must remember that the drink is made of artificial and processed ingredients and consuming them is never good for your health. The drink contains nothing special that differentiates it from other sports or energy drinks in the market, but the price is still very high. If you are looking for an energy drink like Gfuel, you can find various alternatives at a much lower price.
