US Scientists Developed Durable Coating To Prevent COVID-19 Infection
Scientists in the US have developed a durable and safe-to-use disinfectant cleaner, also known as durable Coating, that claims to kill COVID-19 virus, E. coli, MRSA bacteria, and various other pathogens within minutes. This would help to prevent COVID-19 disease & its cases and the spreading of other infectious diseases.
This disinfectant cleaner or durable coating is developed at the University of Michigan, the United States, and that claims to kill 99.9 per cent of microbes on real-world surfaces like keyboards, cell phone screams, and chicken-slathered cutting boards.
“The coating could be a game changer in traditionally germ-laden public spaces like airports and hospitals”, said Anish Tuteja, a professor at the University of Michigan. “Disinfectant cleaners can kill germs in only a minute or two, but they dissipate quickly and leave surfaces vulnerable to reinfection,” said Tuteja, a co-corresponding author of the research published in the journal Matter.

“We do have long-lasting antibacterial surfaces made up of metals like copper and zinc, but they take hours to kill bacteria. This coating offers the best of both worlds,” he explained. The coating can be brushed or sprayed on the surface, and used antimicrobial molecules derived from tea tree oil and cinnamon oil to prepare it. The researchers said that both substances have been used for centuries as effective germs killers that start working within two minutes of application.
According to Tuteja, the coating can be used on surfaces like floors and furniture to disinfect. It is approved by the FDA (Foods and Drugs Administration), which makes it safe to use.
The results of the durability test suggest that the coating could keep killing the germ for six months or longer before the oil begins to evaporate and the disinfectant power reduces.
