Chemical toxins are potent substances that can have severe effects on health. They are everywhere: unclean water, specific foods, cosmetic products, polluted air, etc. Exposure to these toxins during pregnancy can cause serious health issues in elementary school kids, according to reports by KFF Health News.
Children born in Europe are exposed to chemicals that obstruct the body’s hormone system. These chemicals have elevated metabolic syndrome among children between the ages of 6 and 11. Obesity, elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol, and insulin resistance, a precursor of type 2 diabetes, are some types of Metabolic syndromes.
Nuria Guil-Oumrait is a scholar from the Icahn School of Medicine located in Mount Sinai in New York City. In a study, she revealed that 62% of the children exposed to the most chemicals were overweight, and 16% were in the low-risk group.
She said in an email, “Moreover, the levels of blood insulin and triglycerides, as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure, were significantly higher in the high-risk group than in the low-risk group.” “ In contrast, HDL-cholesterol levels were lower in the high-risk group than in the low-risk group.” HDL cholesterol is a good blood fat that clears arteries.
Metabolic syndrome is generally connected with adult cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and stroke. But because of the growing cases of childhood obesity, its symptoms have started to appear in kids, too. According to researchers, having metabolic syndrome as a child can cause chronic disease as an adult.
Postdoctoral researcher Vicente Mustieles, Peloton Instructor Mariana Fernandez, and scientist Carmen Messerlian said in an editorial to JAMA Network Open, “ This research stands out as one of the most comprehensive endeavours delving into early-life environmental origins of metabolic risk, further bolstering prior toxicological and epidemiological evidence in this area.”
Chemical toxins in muddy water, polluted air, cosmetics, etc., can severely affect young kids. It can also cause health issues in infants as well as the mother.
