Dengue is a perilous disease that infects approximately 400 million people around the globe, of whom 40,000 succumb to the disease. Considering the consequences of the disease, IIL (Indian Immunologicals Limited) has taken steps in preparing the vaccine. The company has successfully finished the first phase of a clinical trial of its vaccine for dengue. IIL further added that the second and third phases of testing the vaccine’s efficacy will soon start.
In an interaction with The Hindu Team, the managing director of IIL, K. Anand Kumar, said, “The findings of the first phase have already been published in peer-reviewed journals. We should have completed the trial in December, but it was delayed by a few months. We wanted to release it in early 2026, but now, maybe by mid-2026, we will be ready to release the vaccines.”
He further added, “For dengue, we got the virus strains from the National Institute of Virology. By mid-2026, we may be ready to release the vaccines. We will release the results of the clinical trials.”
