West Texas children are suffering from measles. As per the State Health Department, 505 cases were reported as of Tuesday. The state expanded the number of provinces in the outbreak area, with 10 more this week. The highly contagious virus began to spread in late January. It has spread to New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Mexico.
A daycare facility in Texas Washington also came under the measles outbreak area and reported multiple cases of this contagious virus including too young children , to be fully vaccinated, according to public officials. This virus is spreading rapidly among children. On Friday, there were seven cases of measles reported at a daycare in Lubbock. As a precaution, the facility is ensuring that children receive the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. This vaccine is first recommended for children between 12 and 15 months old, with a second dose suggested between the ages of 4 and 6 years.
There are more than 200 children in daycare, and everyone needs to get vaccinated with both doses as case count and hospitalisation numbers in Texas are increasing steadily after the outbreak began and spiked by 81 cases till now. On Tuesday, the state added another 24 cases to its count. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention met with Texas officials on Monday to determine how many people were sent to West Texas to help in this outbreak. As the numbers are increasing, not decreasing every day, and it’s mostly affecting children, children who were not vaccinated must stay home, and those who were not vaccinated for the second dose must get it early.
