Growing Number Of Anti-vaccination Protests Across Australia
Thousands of anti-vaccination protestors gathered in cities throughout Australia, while smaller counter-protests in support of health reforms marched as well.
The vaccine program in Australia is still voluntary and very successful, with over 85 percent of the population over the age of 16 being fully vaccinated and life returning to normal for those who have been dually vaccinated. Vaccine mandates are not universal and have only been extended to particular professions by state authorities, according to protesters who marched in many of Australia’s major cities.
Thousands of people gathered in Melbourne to demand that state leader Daniel Andrews be jailed and to express their anger with the newly projected epidemic code of conduct.
As per the Police brief, up to 10,000 people gathered in Sydney, with one protester dressed as Scottish freedom fighter William Wallace from the film “Braveheart” and another dressed as former US President Donald Trump speaking to the audience.
There were no reports of fights, and there were no cries to hang political leaders that were seen in previous Melbourne protests, raising concerns that the gatherings were promoting violence.
However, 2000 protesters have also been collected in Melbourne against the anti-vaccination rally- one of the earliest counter-disagreement since the pandemic began.
While talking to the media persons, one of the counter-protesters, Maureen Hill said, “I’m here because I am disgusted by what’s going on the streets of my city, Melbourne.”
“Everything that’s been done (by the public health orders) has been done to save lives. I mean, it did upset people, and it did affect a lot of people, but it’s a worldwide pandemic. What else are we supposed to do?” Hill added to his statement.
