Cancer Screening Camp Takes Place In Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh becomes India’s first state to conduct cancer screening for women and aims to bring 4.07 Cr people under this screening. The government conducted a screening program that took place on February 18, 2025, at Yedugundlapadu village of Maddipadu Mandal, Prakasam district. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav attended the event as the chief guest, with actress Gautami, who is also the chairperson of Life Again Foundation.
Addressing the event, the minister shared that among the global deaths caused by non-communicable diseases, cancer accounts for 17%, according to WHO (World Health Organisation). He emphasised that common types of cancer can be conquered through proper awareness and timely medical treatment.
The cancer screening program began last year on November 14. The government aimed to screen 4.07 crore people in six months; however, only 95 lakh people were screened. Among the screened people, 37,000 people were found to have symptoms of oral cancer, 26,000 had cervical cancer, and 25,000 had breast cancer.
Satya Kumar Yadav shared that 63% of cancers are preventable, and the remaining 37% are difficult to diagnose. He also shared that Andra is the only state to conduct cancer screening for women. He requested that every woman in the state who is over 18 must undergo the tests without hesitation.
Actress Gautami encouraged people not to lose hope against cancer. She shared her own journey of being diagnosed with breast cancer after 4 years of losing her mother. At that time, her daughter was under 5.
Many MLAs (Members of Legislative Assembly), including Damacharla Janardan Rao and BN Vijay Kumar, DMHO (District Medical & Health Officer) Telagathoti Venkateswarlu and other officials attended the campaign. This event concluded with attendees taking the pledge to undergo cancer screening.
