Coronavirus: Delhi Witnesses An Increase In COVID-19 Cases

With the increase in COVID-19 Cases in Delhi, the authorities have to raise surveillance and are on alert with early detection and containment of people infected with the disease. Some districts in Delhi have planned an awareness campaign for next week.
The new cases of COVID-19 and the positivity rate in Delhi have seen an upward trend in the last few days. According to the City Health Department Data, the positivity rate between 10 April to 15 April increased by three times. With 141 cases, the positivity rate on 10 April was 1.29% and 3.95% on Friday with 399 cases.
A senior official of the south district administration said —‘The surveillance team are active, on alert mode and monitoring the situation. ’ The officials told PTI, ‘our surveillance is on. We are focusing more on testing and contact tracing, symptomatic people are being tested. Contact tracing and surveillance were never stopped and now we are putting emphasis on it. ’
The official also said that ‘the district administration will further improve containment strategies and ensure strict enforcement of COVID-appropriate behaviour, including wearing a mask if it is suggested by Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in its 20 April meeting.’
DDMA will conduct a meeting on 20 April to discuss the rise of COVID-19 cases and decide upon reimposing the penalty for not wearing a face mask. The order from the health department on April 2 said that a ‘fine will not be imposed on not wearing the face mask at public places.’
Government stats show that the highest number of COVID-19 cases (81) on 14 April was reported in the South district, while on 13 April, the number of cases was 44. On 14 April the number of cases in the Southeast district was 72, while on 13 April, it was 53. The lowest number of cases was reported on 14 April in the Northeast district.
