Delhi: Dengue Cases Sees an Uptick, Broke 3 Years Record
New Delhi: After Coronavirus, the capital city of India is now enduring Dengue. The number of cases is rising day by day, and the figure has crossed 300 in Delhi on Monday.
Dengue has jumped 63.6 % this week compared to last month. Hospitals have been reporting at least three cases daily for the last three weeks. According to the municipal corporation report, 217 cases were registered in September and 68 new cases were reported last week, after which the number of cases reached 341 till 2nd October. Reports show that this year, Dengue has broken the record of the last three years. Thus, Dengue has become a cause of concern for public health authorities.
However, not all Dengue patients need hospitalization. If the fever persists even after the specific period and complication signs experienced, patients need to be admitted to the hospital.
The most common symptoms of Dengue Virus (DENV) is fever with the following-
- Nausea, Vomiting
- Aches and pain in eyes, typically behind the eyes, muscles, joints, and bones
Severe Dengue Signs–
- Belly pain, tenderness
- Vomiting (3 or more times in 24 hours)
- Bleeding from nose or gums
- Blood in vomiting and stools,
- Feeling tired, restless, and irritation
Generally, at this time, mid-October, Dengue cases start falling. This year, Dengue cases are rising due to the heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR. According to the Municipal Corporation Official, ‘Mosquito breeding has increased after the heavy rainfall in Delhi-NCR. This year the rain continued even after the monsoon season. As a result, mosquito breeding has increased to a great extent.
A doctor at Max Hospital, Saket – Delhi, said that the number of Dengue cases is steadily increasing, “but one good thing with Dengue patients this time is, the mosquito larvae are mild within the people, which is recovering at home. Those who are being admitted to the hospital are also being discharged from the hospital in two or three days”.
