Cervical cancer poses a significant health threat to women worldwide, and India is no exception. As per the reports, India witnesses over 1,24,000 new cases and 78,000 deaths annually, and this is only because of the lack of knowledge.
However, in recent years, India has brought several workarounds to combat this deadly disease. One of the major steps that India has taken to prevent cervical cancer is the adoption of HPV vaccination.
Finally, the time has come, and India announced the initiation of HPV, Human Papillomavirus, a common sexually transmitted virus vaccination. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared that girls between 9 and 14 would receive HPV vaccination for free. It is a powerful shield that aims to combat cervical cancer, the silent killer responsible for a quarter of all female cancer deaths in Asia.
However, vaccination was previously available in private hospitals, but at Rs. 4000 per dose, which was out of the reach of many. Offering HPV vaccination for free is a proactive step towards women’s health in India.
Moreover, awareness campaigns highlighting the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing the disease have been a significant factor in dispelling the myths and misconceptions surrounding the vaccination. These efforts have increased the acceptance of vaccines in India.
Overall, by expanding access to vaccines, India will prevent the cause of deadly diseases, ultimately saving countless lives and safeguarding the health of future generations. Child vaccination is important for children to reduce health-related risks. Therefore, parents are advised not to miss it at any cost.
