Monkeypox Outbreak: UK Reported It A Notifiable Disease
After the Covid 19 pandemic started to take a back seat, the World Health Organisation introduced us to another deadly disease named monkeypox. Reports suggest around twenty-nine countries are currently experiencing the monkeypox outbreak. The disease is said to be preventable at the moment and there have been no reported deaths until now.
As the disease remains a matter of concern worldwide, the United Kingdom has around 300 cases of monkeypox. With such an intense situation and to avoid any further pandemic; the Health Security Agency of the UK has issued some guidelines on aspects of the disease. The guidelines identify the disease as a ‘Notifiable Disease’. This means any patient suffering from the disease or initiating the treatment is liable to inform the officials about their condition.
Local doctors providing treatment are also informed to share information with the government and if they fail to share the numbers, they could be held responsible. Along with the UK other countries like Canada, Africa, Australia, etc have shared the guidelines after there was a sudden hike in the cases.
Unlike covid 19, the monkeypox disease is not airborne but has a person-to-person transmission. The virus can affect another individual if they come in contact with the infected person or use their belongings. The monkeypox disease looks like small pimples all over the body which could be painful. This rare disease shows symptoms like body pain, flu, cough, chills, mild yet constant fever, and body pain. The disease takes time to recover and does not have a single medicine that promotes recovery.
