WHO’s 7 Suggestions to Build a Robust Healthcare System
“The Covid-19 pandemic has had a long-lasting impact across all areas of society. We (the world) should come forward to share experience gained through previous epidemics and build a robust healthcare system, strengthening prevention and pandemic preparedness,” said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom.
The World Health Organization has released a series of documents on transforming the present healthcare system to become robust and work towards Universal Health Care. The Covid-19 pandemic has reinforced the need for renewing or improving the healthcare system to contribute to global pandemic preparedness against all types of global health threats.
The need for a robust healthcare system is at its peak today, and the pandemic has accelerated its demands. With the increasing population, building a robust healthcare system becomes complicated and demands a collaborative approach putting UHC and Health Security equally.
WHO’s policy comes at a time of socioeconomics recovery and transformation. Here are the key recommendations WHO gave on building a resilient healthcare system.
- Multiply the ongoing efforts to strengthen both the pandemic preparedness and health systems
- Increased budget for essential public health functions and resources, including all-hazard emergency risk management
- Embark on a solid and functioning primary healthcare foundation
- Invest in institutionalizing mechanisms to ensure better engagement
- Create and promote a better environment for research, innovation and learning
- Boost domestic and global investment in healthcare equipment, institutions and enterprises
- Addressing pre-existing inequities and marginalizing the impact of covid-19
“These Efforts will boost the implementation of the international health regulations (2005) across the world and accelerate the efforts towards sustainable health-related goals”, Tedros added.
