April 24-30 is observed as World Immunization Week, a global campaign led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about the vital roles vaccines play in protecting people of all ages against preventable diseases.
The theme of World Immunization Week 2025 is “Immunization for All is Humanly Possible.” The WHO says that “vaccines are one of humanity’s greatest achievements. Over the past 50 years, essential vaccines have saved at least 153 million lives, approximately 6 per minute, every 5 decades.”
During this time, a 40% improvement in infant survival is observed. Here is the list of vaccines recommended for people of different ages, as per the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
