A recent study of the ongoing infection (contracts two weeks after double doses of covid-19 vaccine) by the India Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has shown that nearly 274 people were infected from the breakthrough infection after getting both doses of vaccines. Ongoing or breakthrough infection hereby denotes whether or not one has contracted Covid-19 after being fully vaccinated.
This study has shown that only 27 (9.9%) out of 274 fully fascinated participants needed to be admitted to the hospital. These 274 participants have also completed the 14-days window after complete vaccination, in which the antibodies are thought to develop. The report also shows a death among the 27 hospitalized patients, while the rest have no serious health issues.
ICMR’s study also highlights the need for systematic data capture for the people contracted with breakthrough infection to track the emergence of any vaccine escape variant and improve the covid-19 vaccine development process by understanding the gaps between clinical research and research-based immunity against covid-19 infection.
Covidshield Has High Seropositivity
The study also points to a major difference in seropositivity among both vaccines used in the ongoing vaccination drive in India. The research has shown that the Covidshield group has higher seropositivity and antibody titers than the Covaxin group.
Out of 274 participants, 258 (94.2%) individuals reported positive development for COVID IgG antibodies against the spike protein. However, there were major differences in Seropositivity between Covidsheild (96.7%) and Covaxin (77.1%).

Most Common Symptoms in Covid-19 Patients After Complete Vaccination
There were a few common symptoms among the 27 individuals who contracted the breakthrough infection and were hospitalized. These symptoms include body ache, including headache, cough, nausea, sore or hoarse throat, loss of taste and smell, diarrhea, breathing issues, and some people also experience irritation and redness.
In Southern, Western, Eastern, and Northwest regions, the individuals contracted with breakthrough infection were found positive due to Delta and Kappa variant viruses.
AIIMS Study On Breakthrough Infection
However, in the previous research on breakthrough infections conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Science, the medical research institution confirmed no death of fully vaccinated people.
Though AIIMS conducted this research between April-May when there was no Delta or Kappa variant of the Covid-19 virus. The overlapping cases in Delhi showed the signs of third-wave (Delta Variant), which was supposed to hit the country in October, the institution has released new covid-19 guidelines for hospitals.
It is the start of the third wave in India as the majority of hospitalized individuals were infected by the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant.
