As the monsoon season sweeps across India, bringing relief from the summer heat, it is also a call to some seasonal diseases. Dengue and Malaria are two common monsoon diseases of concern every year. However, this year, the average cost of treatment for these illnesses has surged to Rs. 1.5 lakh, highlighting the prominent Indian insurance company Policybazaar.
According to the latest assessment by Policybazaar.com, these conditions account for a significant portion—33% to 40%—of health insurance claims linked to seasonal diseases.
Dengue and Malaria comprise 15% of these claims, while gastroenteritis, another health problem, contributed 18%. Rising treatment costs for allergies, influenza, and bronchitis, which also peak during this season, further amplify the financial burden.
Rising Treatment Factors
The increase in treatment results from factors like higher hospitalisation fees, expensive diagnostics tests, and the use of advanced medical interventions to combat severe cases.
Preventive Measures and Awareness
Prevention is always better than cure; therefore, following wellness precautions during the rainy season is important.
- Maintain a clean environment to prevent mosquito breeding.
- Use mosquito repellent or wear full-sleeved clothing to minimise mosquito bites.
- Eat home and freshly cooked food, especially during the monsoon season.
- Drink clean and adequate water to remove the toxins from the body.
- Maintain physical hygiene to prevent respiratory infections
- Focus on healthy food, including seasonal fruits, to strengthen your immune system.
- Open the doors and windows for fresh air and sunlight.
- Soak your clothes in the sunlight.
Seasonal illness can strike at any time; therefore, health insurance is crucial to achieving better healthcare facilities and treatments. Moreover, taking precautions can prevent unwanted diseases.
